People Matter

People Matter, our new social action group, needs your help!

People Matter aims to show God’s love by giving food and furniture to people in need in Cullompton. Rev Edward Hobbs said: "Speaking personally, I am so excited that People Matter is here, as I believe it resonates with God's heart! If we really do want to ‘Reveal the heart of Jesus, in the heart of our community’, then this must be just the kind of thing that we are about. I can't wait to see what God will do in it and through it!"

As the financial crisis deepens an increasing number of people need practical help. We will be working with other agencies, such as the children’s and family centres, which will refer people to us. These agencies have already told us they have families who sometimes have empty cupboards and fridges.

St Andrew’s members Angela Ford and Liz Straw are the founders of People Matter which is based on the Biblical principles found in Matthew 25 where Jesus urges us to give food, clothes and shelter to people who have none.   “Lord when did we see you see hungry and give you food or thirsty and give you something to drink?...I tell you the truth anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me.”

We need your help ...

Food
The food we give away needs to have a long shelf life and is mainly basic food that can be easily heated up and eaten. Our families may not have a cooker or even a microwave, so items such as Pot Noodles are an instant, easy filling meal when you’re hungry. We’d love to regularly give food away to families in need and we need your help to do this. Please bring any items listed below and place in the People Matter box at the back of church.

·          Pasta, rice, cereals, biscuits, flapjacks, chocolate bars.
·         Tinned fruit, meat, fish, tuna, veg, rice and custard
·         Pot Noodles, pasta sauces. Soups and Cuppa soups.
·        Tinned meat, fish, beef stew, beans and sausages

Furniture
Many of our families have small flats/houses and therefore, can only take small furniture. Some arrive in Cullompton with no furniture so it would be great if we give them any of the good quality items listed below.
Yes please we’d love good quality small: sofas, armchairs, coffee/TV tables, single/double beds, chest of drawers, small bookcases/storage units. Clean bedding and curtains.
No thanks we can’t take: big sofas, wardrobes, dining chairs and tables. Anything worn, damaged or dirty.
Other ways to help
·         Please pray for People Matter. We can’t do this alone!
·       Join our team. We need a group of people to work together as a team to make this happen – we’ll have fun too!
·      Transporting and storing furniture. Collecting small items, sorting and transporting food
·        Small DIY jobs. An electrician to carry out PAT on electrical items
·   We would love to bless people in need in Cullompton with a gift voucher and a card at Christmas. If you would like to use your Tesco Clubcard points to buy £5 (only) Tesco gift cards we will pass them on to people in need.
